Final Project Poster

Good work to everyone who worked on this!  Here is the Final Project Poster:

Final Project Powerpoint

Here is our Final Project Powerpoint Presentation!  Under each slide is the person who presents the slide and also some notes to help you get started talking (if you need any help - which you probably don't. :) ) Nearly everyone has 2 slides.  Andrew has 4 slides since he'll announce the team, the projects, and ask for questions at the end.  Sarah's slides are not back-to-back.  She'll talk about a slide before Amanda's slides, and then talk about the video and play the video after Amanda's slides.  The link to the video is included under the Video Slide - go see it on YouTube!!

Title page: Andrew
-Welcome, introduce the team
-Talk about how we are all international students

Slide 2: Andrew
-"We're going to present this in 2 sections.  First we're going to talk about possible short-term projects centered around marketing for the Next Generation"

Slide 3: Boriss
-Talk more about how social media is becoming more and more important and how creating a Facebook Fan Page is a good way to market to younger people
-Also mention what else is on the slide.

Slide 4: Alea

Slide 5: Alea

Slide 6: Andrew
-"We also wanted to create a project that Hirvilampi could use in their long-term strategies, so we created a "Survivor Package" that they could use to bring in customers during the weekdays."

Slide 7: Evan

Slide 8: Evan
-Figured you could wing this based on the info you know of your other projects

Slide 9: Viren
-Pick and choose a handfull.  Don't talk about everything.  Maybe talk about how the non-competitive activities can be used for business groups in team-buildingactivities.  Or for small groups who just want a relaxing time with some structure and activities.

Slide 10: Viren

Slide 11: Sarah
-Stress the "Note:" because it explains WHY we think they should talk to sponsors, schools, companies, etc.

Slide 12: Amanda
-Figured you would be able to wing this because you wrote out the entire schedule with descriptions on the big white paper.

Slide 13: Amanda

Video Slide: Sarah
-Present the video
-Maybe talk about why we created it
(To be awesome!)

*Note: there are some content issues, so we are blocked in Germany... Hahaha!!

Facebook Zprávy - INNO58 - a leader meeting report:
"Hi guys,

I had a meeting with Noora on Tuesday 23rd March and have to start working on our INNO project.

At the beginning I am sending you a few questions concerning a camp in Archipelago:

1) If somebody of you have some food allergy?

2) Decide if we want to live together (all our team in one room) + bathrooms are of course separated or if we want to live separated (man/ladies).
• I prefer to live together.

3) Next point of the kind of transport to the camp – no one from our group have a car so Timo is trying to figure out something.

4) There is going to be “competition” between us as teams – another students of INNO will vote the best team work (evaluation = attendance, doing assignments, but the biggest ratio concern utilization of our project for the company)

5) If we want to make some party after the final presentation (16th April)
• I am in ;)

Please write me your answers as soon as possible – we have to do it until this Tuesday 23rd March.

I am working on our schedule right now and will send you when I am finished.

c u

Andrew"

Social Media

What better way to research social media than to find out what people who use social media are saying in their blogs, tweets, interactive dictionaries, commenting capabilities, and more?  There is a lot of information out there.  The most simple definition of social media that I have found is the one that Viren and Boriss mentioned previously from Chris Shipley:

"Social media were spaces on the web where people could hold public conversations." (Shel, 2010)

Most of the articles that I have found restate this in different words.  Basically, social media isn't Facebook or Myspace.  Those are tools that make social media possible.  Social media is the concept of people holding conversations through internet.   How social media is applied is where the difference lies.

Mike Johansson from Fixitology wrote an article about how there is a difference between "Living" and "Existing" through Social Media.  "Existing" is a more passive state - the social media tools are only used to post announcements, is not a high priority, and follows no set plan or strategy.  "Living" is a more active state - the social media tools are used to generate a conversation.  Relationships are built, there is a strategy in place, customers are asked questions and get responses to what they post. (Johansson, 2010) "Existing" is "I have facebook", "Living" is "I have a social media strategy and facebook is a part of how I reach such-and-such market."

BOOK: Service Innovation; Organisational responses to technological opportunities and market imperatives; Joe Tidd, Frank M Hull.

I have to admit that am still a bit confused with what the book is about. I expected it is going to be only about innovation in services. But there are mainly mentioned organizational innovation and then innovation joined to product development. I want to mention only a few notes that are, in my opinion, important.

  • outcome of service innovation is CHANGE:
    - technology
    - managerial system
    - knowledge + skills
    - values
  • types of service innovation:
    - process innovation = hase been changed in the process of behaviour of a firm
    - organisational inn. = has been changed in the firm organisation
    - marketing inn. = a new market behaviour is discovered and exploited
    - productive inn. = a new service product is developed

In our project we can figure out all kinds of innovations mentioned above.

  • EVERYTHING is about customer added value (service that we provide to customer)
  • what is the biggest problem? - figure out way of delivery of service to customer
  • find a customer service gap
  • fast growers (lead innovators) focus on specific groups or types of customers - it also costs less
  • fast growers tend to have high value, long term relationships with their customers, repeated transactions, lower value contracts
  • companies started focus on High Technology
  • companies started outsourcing their services
  • VERY important - communication - it can be critical success - in our case is not bad to use F2F communication to address our potential customers
  • very important feedback from customer - can adjust our strategy
  • service-orientation is critical for our future business model which we have been transforming over recent years

Social Media

My first reaction of social media was not much. I thought of Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. I have to agree with Boris’ statement about what Shipley defined about social media (“the place on the web where people can make the public conversation.”) This to me sums up social media. Social media is a great networking tool and an amazing way to stay in contact with friends and family.

There is much more to social media though. For this course though, I believe that social media marketing is a definitive key in creating innovative ideas for the project. Social media marketing has three vital points to its definition. The first is to create some sort of buzz about one’s company. The next is to build your company by gaining fans, so there is some is a base for the support of the company. Last is to have online conversation where the customer is respected. Social media is about the people, not about the logos or webpage’s. It is what the customer ultimately wants and will gain satisfaction in building a community for itself.

In today’s world, companies are asking themselves how they can effectively use these social media tools to reach their audiences. For me when I think about this I think you have to go back to the basics of defining the objective and goals of the company. When strategizing for social media it is important to gain some sort of ground about your customer. If one thinks about what the company wants then when will they reach the customer’s need? The answer is they will reach some, but they will not fulfill the potential of maximizing the social media to its’ greatest.

After reading some facts about social media I have came to the conclusion that social media is a great tool to use, but it has to be use in a smart way or else it can hurt one’s company. Social media is very open and free to everyone around the world. It takes one person to not be satisfied with how something is done about company which can be a negative towards a company and the one person can use its own social media to pass the negativity to the rest of the world. On the other hand social media is a great tool to have, as it involves social interaction via the web, and can be very easy to gain market segments when a company wants to increase its market.

Much has been written about social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and LinkedIn, which are considered to be some of the leading platforms on the social media front. Another term, Web 2.0 is used to describe the evolution of the internet from a single-directional source of information from sender to receiver (Web 1.0) to a multi-directional tool and interactive community where people can people can post, blog and share in real-time. (Brennan, 2010) Social media is believed to be the "next generation" of internet, a progression from e-mail and business web pages, allowing networking to happen on an accelerated scale, allowing business to reach a greater audience and with greater transparency.

Greenberg (2009) suggests there are three main channels of social media: blogs, forums and social networking. Blogs are similar to online journals, and forums are much like online chatting facilities. Social networks are essentially online communities that link members. An example of this would be LinkedIn, it has more that 35 million registered users, spanning 170 industries. It is a highly successful social network for the business community.

The main reasons a business would use facebook, as stated in Facebook Marketing for Dummies are:

  • Due to it's viral marketing capabilities, Facebook is an excellent platform to build brand awareness.
  • It allows business' to interact with customers to gain valuable consumer insight.
  • A facebook page improves a business' search engine rankings.

(Dunay and Kruegar, 2009, p.15)

Growth in social media usage over the past 2 years has been significant, to demonstate this a Chicago based research firm, Technomic, observed " it took radio 58 years to reach a total audience of 50million. It took television 13 years, the internet four, the iPod three. Facebook hit an audience of 50 million in two years and has increased 50% to 300million in the last six months"(Levin, 2010, p.12) The number of active users reading blogs increased from 54% to 77% globally between 2006 and 2008 and the number of people writing a blog grew from 28% to 45%. Showing an increased trend towards social media and blogging. (Smith, 2009, p.559)

Similarly in 2006 just 32% of people watched multimedia online through sites such as YOuTube. However, this increased to 83% in 2008, making it the fastest growing social media platform ever. It is interesting to note that US- video sharing is driven by consumer focussed content, highlighting that the future of marketing will be increasingly bottom-up and consumer-driven. For this reason it is important that businesses use social media as a method of listening to consumers and targetting their needs. Social media has presented the oppurtunity for users to express their opinions, allowing more natural market research for businesses. Furthermore, with the significant increase in global connectivity through social media sites, businesses are becoming increasingly globally focussed.

Social Media Info

Social media is defined as media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. When I think of social media, I automatically think of Facebook or Myspace, but that was only after a litt bit of research. Little did I know it, but I have been using social media for years.

When the internet boom took over our country, so did social media. When people began to see the ads and slogans on their internet pages they remembered them. On a subconscious level when people thought “hey lets get some ice cream” Then the subconscious add they saw online for Ben and Jerry’s kicks in and they buy Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.

This is just one example of social media. Others can include blogs, sites like Facebook, Wikipedia, Youtube, etc. and the list goes on and on. Social media is based upon three categories, concept, media, and social interface. All these categories can also be divided into sub-categories, which include concepts, slogans, and statements with a high memory retention quotient, that excite others to repeat. Grass-Roots direct action information dissemination is also important, such as public speaking, installations, performance, and demonstrations. Electronic media with 'sharing', syndication, or search algorithm technologies (includes internet and mobile devices) and finally print media, designed to be re-distributed.

All of this information needs to be considered when deciding which form of social media to use for our project.

Social Media paper

Social Media
26.03.2010
Amanda Stefanopoulos

After looking through several random websites, watching a few videos, reading an article or two, and looking through a slide I found out that there is no real definition of what social media is or can be. Social Media is such a broad topic in which many things fall under. I found that it’s not what you are needing or wanting to gain from that media that is important it’s how you do it that is. You have to have done a good amount of research not only on your target audience, your product at hand, and the type of media that you’re going to be using, but you have to look outside of the box and be free to ask several questions.

With our project the goal is to mainly create new innovative ideas for a small company that wants to expand its audience. Right now there will be several unanswered question, because we have no direct assignment. I believe this is important, because there are no set limitations; which is a key factor to social media from what I’ve gathered. I believe we need to figure out and answer the questions above, but be free to ask and answer other questions in hopes of gaining a more creative outcome. In a power point that I found they stated three crucial steps to identify. First you should create your content; which is simply creating a network, such as facebook, a blog, twitter, etc. We have already started this process by creating a blog now we just need to move on to step two. This is where we need to make connections with people outside of our group. It shows that it is possible to do this by creating online profiles, seeking out new friends, and interacting with the ones you already have. The third step is to make recommendations you have a rating review system, be able to tag or rank content, and possibly contribute useful articles or links. I believe we have a solid grasp on most all of this on our blog so far: however I think once we get a good direction started we could implement this more properly by going into depth with what we want to do and open it up to questions, comments, and suggestions from the public. On this slide there were several examples and plenty more useful information to check out.

Furthermore I found a website with random articles on how different companies or corporations use social networking and other things. This website gave examples from facebook, twitter, IBM, Zohos, and many others. I didn’t go through all the articles, but I schemed a couple and it seemed as though many of their aims were on research. Trying to answer questions like, where do people get most of their information from?, How do you combine what your wanting to achieve with what the world or audience wants?, and if you have more than one audience or goal how do you not miss or leave anything out? Some had a few answers for themselves, but mostly they are problems that you can’t solve until you fail or succeed. This site seemed very useful to me, because it opens up your mind to new questions; which ultimately broadens you outcomes.

Lastly is the all too well known YouTube. YouTube is a website phenomenon that caught on all over the world. This site has been and probably will remain a top spot for social media. Whether it be just basic home videos or videos ultimately targeting and benefiting a company it seems to somehow work. You are not only able to share your videos, but the site allows you to make recommendations, comments, and shows how many people have watched. These three things are crucial factors to the person who posted the video. It resolves and eliminates those unanswered questions we all have. This website made a huge turning point in social media and I think shows just how limitless the world of social media can be.

Social media is key part of just about every human beings lives. It gives us direction, wants, needs, desires, and educates us. It helps all people no matter how little or how big their information is make a name for themselves. Through social media we can achieve many goals and gain more outcomes for our project. If we allow others to help us answer questions and give us feedback there is no reason we can’t be successful in this project or any project we may have in the future.

Social media

Social media

Social media is a quite recent phenomenon. With the exposure of the WEB 2.0 the social media came to our life. Now we cannot imagine our life without it. But what is the “Social media”? Well, according to Chris Shipley 2006 it is “the place on the web where people can make the public conversations”.

There are a lot of examples of Social Media which we were using every day without noticing that it is a Social Media – MySpace, Facebook , Yuotube, Flickr, Wikipedia, Blogger, Live Journal, Twitter, Google Answers etc. As well Social media describes websites that allow users to share content, media, etc. The users can share their views, pictures, videos etc. The huge advantage is that your physical location does not matter. You only should have an internet access to go to web.

Nowadays the social media become really important for business. It is a real opportunity for businesses to market themselves and to get the new customers. Other benefit of the social media for business is it cheapness which is very relevant for the small companies cause they don’t have large amount of money to spend on marketing.

The Social media is and emerging market right now so it is extremely crucial for business to adapt their marketing strategy to compete well enough in the 21st century using the latest technology in order to produce or deliver cutting edge products or services.
