Social Media Info

Social media is defined as media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. When I think of social media, I automatically think of Facebook or Myspace, but that was only after a litt bit of research. Little did I know it, but I have been using social media for years.

When the internet boom took over our country, so did social media. When people began to see the ads and slogans on their internet pages they remembered them. On a subconscious level when people thought “hey lets get some ice cream” Then the subconscious add they saw online for Ben and Jerry’s kicks in and they buy Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.

This is just one example of social media. Others can include blogs, sites like Facebook, Wikipedia, Youtube, etc. and the list goes on and on. Social media is based upon three categories, concept, media, and social interface. All these categories can also be divided into sub-categories, which include concepts, slogans, and statements with a high memory retention quotient, that excite others to repeat. Grass-Roots direct action information dissemination is also important, such as public speaking, installations, performance, and demonstrations. Electronic media with 'sharing', syndication, or search algorithm technologies (includes internet and mobile devices) and finally print media, designed to be re-distributed.

All of this information needs to be considered when deciding which form of social media to use for our project.
